Hurmat graduated from the University of Toronto in Environmental Science and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Her previous organizations included the University of Toronto, Toronto Region Conservation Authority & York Region, Habitat for Humanity, and Youth Challenge International.
She is passionate about the environment and has worked on multiple projects regarding the current global problematic issues. She worked with the University of Toronto to make the Mississauga campus more sustainable by introducing waste diversion programs. She worked as a Climate Action Catalyst on the management of food waste in her community through community engagement and by being a liaison between the restaurants and the customers. She has also assisted the York Region by doing statistical analysis and finding the possible causes for damage in their water treatment plants. She has outreached for Habitat For Humanity in multiple cities and helped them raise money for the construction of houses for those in need.
